Snowy Plover Research Paper

Hello OCH community, we have an exciting special post for you this week! One of our previous interns, Tiffany Chao, recently completed her Honors Research Paper at the UCLA Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. It focuses on potential impacts to our listed species the Western Snowy Plover, incorporating data collected and compiled by our very own OCH team. As many of you know, we have worked hard to educate about and protect Snowy Plovers for many years. You can read and watch videos about the Snowy Plover on our website here and here. In fact, we are just wrapping up 7 years (!) of our Coastal Dune Habitat Monitoring program in which we collected data across OC beaches to have accurate information on listed species like the Western Snowy Plover and California Least Tern as well as the habitat they live in.

Attached below as a PDF is Tiffany Chao's research paper: "Effect of Temperature and Precipitation on Wintering Snowy Plover Population and Spring Migration Timing." We're so proud of Tiffany's work in conservation and of all the important data collection our volunteers have carried out to help protect this threatened species.
